Top 10 Kombucha Health Claims, Put to the Test

Life Blood kombucha with the top 10 kombucha health claims put to the test

We hear all sorts of health claims pinned to kombucha. Some sensible, some wild, some frankly wacky. So we asked the big one: is kombucha actually good for you? Then we grabbed the top ten claims, dug through the actual research, and marked each one honestly.

Quick note before we start: we make drinks, not medicine. None of this is health advice, and we are not claiming a can of Life Blood fixes anything. We just thought the truth was more fun than the hype. Right, let’s go.

1. “It’s good for your gut”

The big one. A Stanford trial put people on a diet of fermented foods, kombucha included, and saw their gut get more diverse and their inflammation drop. It wasn’t a solo act, but it made the team.

Verdict: some real grounding.

2. “It balances your blood sugar”

This one surprised us. A small Georgetown pilot trial had people with type 2 diabetes drink kombucha daily, and their average fasting blood sugar dropped. Only twelve people though, so early days, and please do not bin your medication over a soft drink.

Verdict: small, but genuinely promising.

3. “It’s loaded with antioxidants”

It starts life as tea, tea is full of them, and fermentation seems to nudge them up rather than down. The logic holds.

Verdict: yep, grounded.

4. “It lowers your cholesterol”

Works wonders. In rats and rabbits. Nobody has proven it in humans yet.

Verdict: great news if you’re a rabbit.

5. “It detoxes your liver”

Your liver already detoxes your liver. For free. All day. There are some animal hints, but no human proof, and “detox” is usually where the science quietly leaves the room.

Verdict: the science isn’t there.

6. “It supercharges your immune system”

Plausible in a petri dish and in animals, thin on the ground in actual people.

Verdict: jury’s still out.

7. “It melts away weight”

No human study shows this. Swapping a sugary drink for a low-sugar one obviously helps, but that’s maths, not magic.

Verdict: nope, the science isn’t there.

8. “It fixes your mood”

The gut-brain link is real and fascinating, but nobody has tested kombucha specifically for mood or calm.

Verdict: lovely theory, no proof yet.

9. “It fights cancer”

You see this one everywhere. It traces back to kombucha extracts doing interesting things to cells in a dish, which is a very long way from a can of drink.

Verdict: interesting in a lab, nowhere near proven.

10. “It cures your hangover”

Our favourite of the wild ones. There are zero studies. Drink water. Then, if you fancy, drink a Life Blood because it tastes great.

Verdict: pure folklore, and we’re here for it.

So, is kombucha good for you?

A couple of the claims have real, early grounding. A few are busy being brilliant in rats. And the rest are just the internet being the internet. All good by us.

We don’t sell Life Blood as medicine. We won’t tell you it’ll fix your gut or add ten years to your life. We can’t, and we wouldn’t.

Some people call it health and wellness. We call it common sense.

We’re just making great drinks.
